Kyiv reports heavy fighting in eastern Ukraine

In the eastern Ukrainian province of Donetsk, heavy fighting continued in the towns of Bakhmut and Avdiivka. Russian attacks had been repelled to the east and south of the neighboring towns of Soledar and Bakhmut, the Ukrainian general staff said on Facebook today. Likewise, Russian advances east of Siwersk and southwest of the city of Avdiivka failed. This information might not be independently verified.

In the southern city of Cherson, which was occupied by Russian troops, the Ukrainian army launched renewed missile counterattacks on the strategically important and previously damaged Antonivka Bridge over the Dnipro River. This was confirmed by the spokeswoman for the Ukrainian Southern Command, Nataliya Humenyuk.

In addition, the road across the Dnipro dam near Nowa Kachowka was fired at with rockets. Since the damage to the only three river crossings in the Russian-occupied lower reaches of the Dnipro at the end of July, supplies for the Russian troops on the right bank have been severely disrupted.

Food freighter leaves Piwdennyj

Meanwhile, for the first time since the beginning of the war, a cargo ship cast off from the Ukrainian port of Pivdennyj. The Ukrainian government said the Sacura was on its way to Italy. The ship is traveling in a caravan with the freighter “Arizona”, which is traveling from the port of Chornomorsk towards the Netherlands. A total of 60,000 tons of agricultural products are on board the ships. This means that all three ports mentioned in the UNO agreement in the southern Ukrainian city of Odessa and the surrounding area are now being used once more.
