The Judicial Commission (KY) is waiting for an official letter from Commission III of the Indonesian House of Representatives regarding the rejection of all candidates for supreme court justices and candidates for ad hoc human rights (HAM) judges at the Supreme Court (MA) in 2024.
KY Spokesperson Mukti Fajar Nur Dewata in an official statement received in Jakarta, Thursday, said that the letter would later be brought to a plenary meeting to determine the KY’s institutional stance.
“Until now, the KY has not received an official letter from Commission III of the Indonesian House of Representatives regarding the rejection of nine candidates for supreme court justices and three candidates for ad hoc human rights judges at the Supreme Court, so we do not yet know the exact reasons for the rejection of all these candidates,” said Mukti.
He said that the KY constitutionally has the authority to propose the appointment of supreme court justices, as regulated in Article 24B of the 1945 Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia (UUD NRI).
“And the KY has conducted a selection of candidates for supreme court justices and candidates for ad hoc human rights judges at the Supreme Court in accordance with applicable procedures and provisions,” said Mukti, who is also a member of the KY.
Mukti explained that the KY plenary session decided to relax the administrative requirements for two candidates for Supreme Court justices of the Special Tax Administration Chamber because there were no tax judges with 20 years of experience as judges and considering the urgent need at the Supreme Court.

Previously, on Wednesday (28/8), Commission III of the Indonesian House of Representatives agreed not to give approval to all candidates for supreme court justices and ad hoc human rights judges at the Supreme Court in 2024 who were submitted by the KY to the Indonesian House of Representatives to undergo a fit and proper test.
This was decided after all factions in Commission III of the Indonesian House of Representatives expressed their views on the errors in the selection mechanism for candidates for supreme court justices and ad hoc human rights judges, resulting in candidates who did not meet the requirements being passed.
According to Commission III of the Indonesian House of Representatives, there are two candidates for Supreme Court justices of the Special Tax Administration Chamber who do not meet the requirement of 20 years of experience as a judge.
The two candidates for supreme court justice are Hari Sih Advianto who has eight years of experience as a judge and Tri Hidayat Wahyudi who has 14 years of experience as a judge. (Ant/P-2)
