Kuwait’s political leadership has strongly protested against Sweden over the burning of a copy of the Holy Quran by a right-wing organization. Governments should be prepared to take strong measures against such hate crimes.
Denigration of the symbols of a religious group in the midst of society can have serious consequences. It was stated in the protest letter that the anti-Islamism of some western countries is taking place in the form of being against international etiquette and human rights.
Political groups have asked the Kuwaiti government to review the investment promotion and protection agreement signed with the Swedish government. The Federation of Consumer Cooperative Societies should be prepared to coordinate boycotts of Swedish products as well.
They also requested the Ministry of Commerce and Industry to ban the import of Swedish goods. The National Islamic Alliance, the Salafist Islamic Group and the Justice and Peace Group signed the joint statement.
