The results of an opinion poll published in the German capital, Berlin, today, Thursday, revealed that regarding 35% of mothers in Germany noticed a deterioration in the mental health of their children during the Corona pandemic.
This came in a survey conducted by the Scientific Institute of the Federation of Legal Health Insurance Companies (AOK).
The results showed that this percentage rose to 51% among mothers in low-income households, and to 44% among single mothers.
The percentage of mothers who noticed a deterioration in the physical health of their children during the pandemic reached 16%, and this percentage rose to 25% among single mothers and 29% among mothers in low-income households.
“Almost all of our study results were unanimous in that children from socially weaker families were significantly more affected by the pandemic,” study lead author Klaus Zuck said in a statement.
On the other hand, the study stated that it seems that the majority of children managed to pass the pandemic well, as the mothers’ assessment indicated that the current physical health of regarding 80% of children and the current mental health of regarding 60% of children ranged from good to very good.
In this context, the results of the study indicated that it is assumed that the deteriorating health conditions associated with the pandemic in most children were not serious, and “it might be compensated once more at the present time.”
The study, which took place last February and March, included 3,000 mothers whose children were between 3 and 12 years old.
