A policewoman pointed her gun at his car
• The police claimed that he was searched for resemblance to a suspect
AC Milan midfielder, Italian football champion, French international Timohe Bakayoko, condemned on Wednesday that the Italian police arrested him while he was accompanied by his relatives, while part of what happened was filmed and broadcast on social media, which sparked sharp criticism.
In the video, 27-year-old Bakayoko appeared quietly leaning on the police car, while a policeman was searching for the French midfielder, next to him.
A few seconds later, a third policeman approached his colleague and footballer, put his gun back to the belt and exchanged a few words with his colleague who recognized Bakayoko to immediately stop searching him.
Milan police confirmed in a statement carried by Italian newspapers that Bakayoko and the other passenger of the car were searched because they resembled the description given by two suspects in another case, describing the accusations of racial profiling as “inappropriate comments”.
“I reported to the Milan authorities that it was a mistake by the police, who realized this,” Bakayoko wrote on his Instagram.
“The error is human, I don’t have a problem with that, but the method and methodology that was used is a problem for me,” he added.
And he added that in the video, “You don’t see everything, and I think this is the quietest part of what happened.”
And the former player of Rennes, French Monaco, Chelsea and the former Italian Napoli concluded, “Why didn’t they simply conduct an investigation regarding the name, by asking for the car’s papers or simply by communicating?”
