Hangzhou (China) (AFP) – A commissioner at the Asian Games athletics stadium in Hangzhou (China) had his leg broken by a hammer thrown during the competition by Kuwaiti Ali Zankawi on Sunday.

The man was sitting on a chair outside the throwing circle when the athlete aborted his attempt and dropped his hammer, a 7 kg metal ball which hit the commissioner’s leg.

The injured man, aged 62, received emergency treatment on site before being evacuated to hospital. “He is in stable condition and will undergo surgery” for a fractured fibula, according to Chinese media.
