Kuwait.. Removal of all violating buildings on “Miskan Island”

Kuwait – The Kuwaiti authorities removed all the illegal buildings on “Miskan Island,” which were built by expatriates illegally.

This was done based on the directives and instructions of the Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Defense and Acting Minister of Interior Sheikh Fahad Al-Yousef Al-Sabah.

Miskan Island is a small Kuwaiti island located on the northwestern side of Failaka Island. The distance between them is regarding 3 km and 218 metres. The nearest point from the Kuwaiti coast is regarding fifteen miles. It is a low sandy island with a length of 1,206 kilometers and a width of 800 metres. It is not Inhabited.

A few days ago, Al-Qabas reported that Al-Yousef issued instructions to the Coast Guard to remove the homes of Egyptian and Asian expatriate fishermen that they had set up on Miskan Island and turned them into their homes.

A source explained to Al-Qabas newspaper that, based on these directives, the concerned authorities removed all the dwellings and barns, and the specialized work teams are currently cleaning up the waste and rubble and removing the damaged boats from the island, in coordination with the Coast Guard and the concerned authorities.

The source indicated that those on the island were of good stature and were not violating, and their sponsors were summoned and informed that they should not re-establish residences on the island because residing there is prohibited.

Miskan Island is characterized by great natural importance, as it includes many rare plant and animal species, and Miskan Island is one of the distinctive tourist destinations in Kuwait.

The Kuwaiti government seeks to develop Maskan Island and turn it into a tourist and cultural center. It is expected that the island will become one of the most important tourist destinations in Kuwait in the future.
