Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN)– The Kuwaiti Ministry of Information announced its intention to take legal measures once morest “cases of electronic extortion of government officials.”
The ministry said, in a statement on Saturday, that it would monitor “all cases of electronic blackmail once morest government officials and take all legal measures that would preserve the status of public office for state employees in order to achieve the public interest.”
A spokeswoman for the Ministry of Information, Anwar Murad, said that the ministry, “in coordination with the security authorities, will monitor these cases and refer them to the concerned authorities to take the necessary action.”
The spokeswoman stressed that “the ministry will spare no effort in prosecuting anyone who tries to blackmail and exploit any situation to achieve his personal ends.”
She indicated that “this step comes following the ministry monitored the clear use of electronic bullying and blackmail by some users of social media to push government officials to take certain measures that would achieve personal interests.”
