The Kuwaiti Ministry of Information announced that “anyone who participates in any artistic work that offends Kuwaiti society will be suspended from participating in any artistic or theatrical works filmed or shown inside Kuwait.”

The ministry’s decision came once morest the backdrop of intense campaigns on social media criticizing the series “One Wife is Not Enough,” which deals with the story of polygamy, in addition to other societal issues.

Social media pioneers’ criticism focused on the fact that “the series offends Kuwaiti society, its traditions, and its societal values,” demanding that it be stopped.

The Acting Assistant Undersecretary for Press, Publishing and Publications at the Kuwaiti Ministry of Information, Lafi Al-Subaie, said in a statement on Sunday, “The role of the Ministry of Information is to preserve the values and traditions of Kuwaiti society… and improve public taste.”

The series “One Wife is Not Enough” brings together a number of actors from Kuwait and Egypt, most notably the Iraqi actress, Hoda Hussein, the Egyptian actor, Majed Al-Masry, and the Egyptian actress, Aiten Amer.

The statement added, “We will not allow anyone who participates in artistic works outside the State of Kuwait that offend Kuwaiti society to present artistic works inside Kuwait.”

The statement called on “makers of artistic works inside and outside Kuwait to be careful not to infringe on the values and principles of Kuwaiti society, and that their works do not include any form of insult to Kuwait and its people.”
