Kuwait issues a decision threatening more than 700,000 Egyptians to return to their country Al-Marsad Newspaper

Al-Marsad newspaper: The Minister of Municipalities in Kuwait, Rana Al-Faris, announced a plan to localize jobs within the ministry and to dispense with expatriates from outside the country.

The Egyptian media pointed out that this plan extends to 3 phases, which may threaten the return of 771,000 Egyptians to their homeland.

The Kuwaiti minister explained that the first phase begins at the beginning of next September, with the termination of contracts of 33% of non-Kuwaitis with a warning period, and that the second phase begins in early February of next year with the termination of the work of 33% of the expatriates, provided that in the third phase a warning period will be given as of 1 July 2023 for the remaining number of employees.

In a statement, Al-Fares confirmed that there are some exceptions that are represented in the non-Kuwaiti employee of a Kuwaiti mother, or from the children of the Gulf Cooperation Council countries.

The excluded categories also include permanent residents of unspecified nationality, provided that they are registered with the Central Apparatus for Illegal Residents’ Status, service employees, and 50% of the funeral directorate staff.

And the Kuwaiti Minister of Municipalities demanded that she be provided with lists of the names of non-Kuwaiti employees no later than a week, in preparation for taking the necessary legal measures to end their services, stressing the cessation of all procedures for the appointment of non-Kuwaitis, and stopping all transfers of non-Kuwaiti workers between departments and sectors.
