Kuwait and China strengthen historic bilateral relations with new cooperation agreements

Kuwait City > The Crown Prince of Kuwait, Sheikh Mishal Al Ahmed Al Jaber Al Sabah, and Chinese President Xi Jinping held a drinks week at the West Lake in Hangzhou, China. The two leaders discussed the historic bilateral relations of more than 50 years and ways to further strengthen them with a view to enhancing the prosperity, progress and development of both peoples. Cooperation agreements were signed between Kuwait and China to work harmoniously in various fields from 2024–2028. The agreements were signed by Kuwaiti Foreign Minister Sheikh Salim Abdullah Al Jabir Al Sabah and Wang Yi, a member of the Communist Party’s Politburo and director of the Party’s Foreign Affairs Committee. Sheikh Salem Abdullah Al-Sabah signed a memorandum of understanding with the Chairman of the National Development and Reform Commission, Zheng Shanzhi, regarding the low-carbon recycling green system. Regarding energy systems and renewable energy, Kuwait’s Minister of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy Dr. Jassim Al Ustad signed a memorandum of understanding with the Chinese National Department of Energy. Regarding the Mubarak Al-Kabeer port, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Oil, and Minister of State for Economic Affairs and Investment Dr. Saad Al Barak signed a memorandum of understanding with Transport Minister Li Xiaopeng. The Foreign Minister on behalf of the Kuwait Direct Investment Promotion Authority (KDPA) signed a memorandum of understanding with Chinese Minister of Commerce Wang Wentao on Economic and Free Zones.
