Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN)– Jared Kushner, son-in-law and advisor to former US President Donald Trump, published memoirs entitled “breaking history” in which he touched on a position and words he “will not forget” from UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan (then he was Crown Prince).
Kushner wrote: “Before we left, M.B.Z. made another comment: He said the United States usually sends three types of people to practice diplomacy. The first are people who sleep in meetings; the second are people who read talking points with no ability to speak; They are people who came and tried to get them to do things that were not in their interest. Notice that I was different. I was the first person who came to ask questions and really tried to understand their views. He thought we were going to make peace in the region..”
He continued, “I was honored to notice Mohammed bin Zayed, and I have never forgotten his words. After our visit, one of my Secret Service agents noticed that he had enjoyed watching a football match with an Emirati security guard named Mohammed.. I told him that the person who assumed he was a security guard was actually M.B.Z. The client was surprised – the crown prince was shockingly humble and calm, and showed a genuine interest in the client’s life, background and family.”
Kushner noted, “At some point, Mohammed bin Salman and Mohammed bin Zayed acknowledged that the allies of their countries are the allies of Israel, and that the enemies of their countries are the enemies of Israel. When I asked them frankly if they were open to normalization, they expressed their desire to make progress on the Palestinian cause, But they did not show hostility to Israel. I asked for their advice on how to deal with the problem, given the difficulty of Abbas to resolve. They indicated that if I might persuade Israel to agree to a credible plan that included a Palestinian state, access to the Al-Aqsa Mosque, and investments to improve the lives of the Palestinian people, it might change That dynamics. They pointed out that if the Palestinians rejected the plan, they would be more open.”
