In addition to comments on the adoption of the Micro-LED display, Kuo shared predictions about the Apple Watch’s market performance in the future and Apple’s strategy for the product. According to the analyst, in 2023, the number of the company’s smart watches should to decrease about 15% in relation to 2022, reaching 36-38 million of units.
Regarding the model to be launched in 2024, which will be the tenth generation of the product, Kuo said it is unlikely that there will be “significant innovative experiments”. This prediction goes against another rumor that was previously circulated, which claimed that the models to be presented next year could have different sizes and several other new features.
It is possible, therefore, that the launch of this commemorative model will only take place in 2025. Another possibility is that the special edition will follow a different schedule or be launched together with other models from the conventional Apple Watches lines, so that the Micro-LED display could be introduced at one of these moments.
The expected blood glucose meter, in turn, “probably” will not be available in 2024 and possibly not in 2025 either, according to Kuo. He added that the Apple Watch is a product that, in general, is successful through the repositioning strategy — and this could be done, depending on the pace of production/sales, if there is a drop in units sold again in 2024.
