AFTER reaping success in the Japan Tour 2023 at seven points last May, the experimental duo from Bandung, Kuntari, had the opportunity to try out another overseas tour. This time, for the first time, Kuntari will appear on stage in Europe throughout March-April.
Kuntari’s European Tour will last for 35 days with a total of 30 stages spread across 25 cities and 9 countries, namely the Netherlands, Germany, France, Denmark, Belgium, Italy, Lithuania, Poland and the Czech Republic.
Calling their genre Primal-Core (primal music with a hardcore attitude), Kuntari will visit several legendary venues such as ALICE in Copenhagen, Denmark and LOFTAS in Vilnius, Lithuania.
Kuntari, consisting of Tesla Manaf and Rio Abror, will undertake this European tour without being accompanied by a stage crew or documentation crew team for the sake of efficiency. This efficiency was also carried out when Kuntari toured Japan for 12 days on 12 stages.
The plan is that Kuntari’s album entitled Larynx (2022), which ranked second in the list of 10 Best Indonesian Albums 2022, will be the main material that will be played to the European public.
“The many requests from friends in Europe to perform in their countries made me determined to do everything independently since last October. Friends spread across 9 countries were kind enough to suggest the best venues in their cities and that’s where the stage offers increased,” said Tesla Manaf

This European tour was carried out without going through a booking agent service. Tesla, who is also Kuntari’s manager, said he personally sent the email to more than 100 venues across Europe.
Tesla shared this via his personal X (Twitter) account, in the form of a series of tips for musicians who want to go on long tours abroad. From how to make press kits, emails, determining routes, choosing venues and so on.
Regarding the overseas tours he often undertakes, Tesla Manaf believes, “In my opinion, inclusivity is everything. There are many good Indonesian bands and the world public must listen to them. So that you don’t get confused regarding where to start, I’ll just share all the ways”
This European tour was funded by a government program called Dana Indonesiana and supported by Grimloc Records, Maternal, Orange Cliff Records and ArteTetra as organizers in Italy.
A week following the European tour, it was reported that Kuntari would continue his tour to Japan in mid-May. They are scheduled to play on 6 stages in ‘Sakura Country’. (RO/Z-1)
