Ordos, People’s Daily Online, August 26 (Liu Yilin, intern Qin Yifan) On August 26, the 9th Kubuqi International Desert Forum opened in Ordos, Inner Mongolia. At the opening ceremony, the National Forestry and Grassland Administration and the Secretariat of the League of Arab States signed the “Memorandum of Understanding on the Establishment of the China-Arab International Research Center for Drought, Desertification and Land Degradation”. The plaque was unveiled, and the first batch of cooperation projects started at the same time.

It is understood that the theme of this forum is “Leading desertification control with science and technology, and making deserts benefit mankind”. Strengthening exchanges around new concepts and technologies for global desertification prevention and control will play a major role in promoting the global effective response to desertification challenges and the promotion of green development. In addition to the opening ceremony, the forum will set up a theme forum on desert biodiversity protection and sustainable resource utilization, a theme forum on sandstorm prevention and scientific sand control, a theme forum on the management of mountains, rivers, forests, fields, lakes, grass and sand systems, innovation, transfer, and sharing—using knowledge and 4 themed forums, including the technology-promoted ecological restoration theme forum.
Desertification is a major global ecological problem that affects human survival and development. my country is one of the countries with the most severe desertification in the world. The Kubuqi International Desert Forum is an important platform to strengthen desertification control, international exchanges and cooperation, and promote the realization of the United Nations’ 2023 sustainable development goals. Since 2007, my country has held eight consecutive Kubuqi International Desert Forums to promote desertification at home and abroad Scientific and technological innovation exchanges and cooperation in prevention and control of ecological civilization, dissemination of experience and achievements in scientific and technological innovation in desertification prevention and control in my country, and help build a community of shared future for mankind.
