Kruder & Dorfmeister: “Our existence is a single holiday”

The duo, world-famous not only in Vienna, is performing again today, Friday, after a long time in the arena. The two spoke to the “Presse” about their careers, age and bad words in hip-hop.

Die Presse: Kruder & Dorfmeister have achieved maximum success with minimal output. Who were your main allies initially?

Richard Dorfmeister: We ourselves. We did everything by ourselves. We went to the UK with our first EP and used the phone box to call labels like Ninja Tune and radio people like Gilles Peterson. Soon the island jumped on our music.

Peter Kruder: We benefited from the fact that the remix was highly regarded at the time. There was something super exciting about someone like Andrew Weatherall remixing tracks. Ultimately we used the apparatus of the industry, for example with our Depeche Mode remixes, without having to be there.

K&D also became famous for turning down remix requests. Wasn’t that a little flirtatious?
