KAI Commuter Prepares for Streamlined Train Travel in 2025
KAI Commuter is gearing up for a significant conversion in railway travel with teh upcoming implementation of Gapeka (Railway Travel Chart) starting February 1, 2025. This new system promises to revolutionize efficiency, punctuality, and overall user comfort.
Asdo Artriviyanto, president Director of KAI Commuter, emphasized the key focus of Gapeka 2025: ”This step is taken to optimize services and reduce user density, especially during rush hours. Besides being also to increase user accessibility to commuter line services,” he stated in a written press release on January 30, 2025.
In the Greater Jakarta area, commuters can expect a boost in train frequency with an additional 15 trips daily, bringing the total to 1,063 trips from the previous 1,048. The Bogor Commuter Line will see a notable increase with 392 trips compared to the previous 379. The Cikarang and Rangkasbitung lines will also experience expansions, adding 21 and 204 trips respectively.
Furthermore, KAI Commuter is optimizing travel times, notably within the Nambo-Depok stretch of the Bogor Commuter Line. The speed on this cross has been increased from 70 km/hour to 80 km/hour, directly translating into reduced travel times. Commuters traveling between Bogor and Jakarta City can now expect a journey of 85 minutes instead of 89 minutes. The Rangkasbitung Cross – Tanah Abang route will also benefit from a decrease in travel time, now taking 98 minutes down from 107 minutes.
While the Merak and basoetta Commuter Lines will not see significant changes, KAI Commuter remains dedicated to delivering high-quality service. The Basoetta LINE will continue to operate with 64 trips daily, while the Merak line will maintain 14 trips daily, with adjusted departure times starting between 7-25 minutes.
Additionally, KAI Commuter has effectively reduced the average waiting time by 2 minutes, from 162 minutes to 160 minutes. This continuous advancement of service facilities across all regions is a testament to their commitment to providing a seamless and enjoyable travel experience.
“This step was taken even from before Gapeka 2025, so that it can be more optimally serving people who need transportation that is affordable for all groups,” Asdo concluded.
Beyond Jakarta, KAI Commuter continues to expand its horizons. In region 2 Bandung, four additional Jatiluhur Commuter Line trips now offer shorter travel times. Region 6 Yogyakarta has also witnessed an increase in commuter line services with the Yogya-purur line now operating 27 trips up from 24, and the Prameks Commuter Line has expanded from 8 to 10 trips. Region 8 Surabaya has welcomed two new stations, Boharan Station and Kedinding Station, further enhancing accessibility for commuters.
KAI Commuter, in collaboration with the Ministry of Transportation’s Directorate General of Railways, has been proactively preparing for Gapeka 2025. Prior to its implementation, they successfully established Pondok Rajeg Station as a new service stop between Citayam Station and Cibinong Station, demonstrating their dedication to convenient and efficient rail travel.
