Kristopher Letang’s 700th Point Milestone in NHL Career

Quebec defenseman Kristopher Letang made his debut in a select club on Saturday when he amassed the 700th point of his NHL career.

Letang, however, reached this significant plateau in a losing cause, as the Pittsburgh Penguins were defeated 4-2 by the Carolina Hurricanes in Raleigh.

It was in the middle of the third period of his 1021st game that the Penguins’ No. 58 joined the 27 other guards who had totaled 700 points on the Bettman circuit.

The 36-year-old right-hander is only the tenth defender to achieve this having played with one and the same formation.

The Montreal native took advantage of a nice breakthrough from Erik Karlsson in the Canes zone (10-7-0) to stand out at the point for a slap shot.

His shot was blocked by Antti Raanta, but captain and longtime friend of Letang, Sidney Crosby, jumped on the return to score his second goal of the evening, and 12th of the season.

No. 87 Pittsburgh (8-8-0) does not falter; he extended his streak of games in which he collected a minimum of one point to eleven.

The celebrations were short-lived following Crosby’s equalizer: Seth Jarvis beat Tristan Jarry at 11:52 to put Carolina back in control.

It was this same Jarvis who had the honor of scoring the insurance goal, while the Pens were down a man in the last minute of play.

While Jarvis totaled three points, Sebastian Aho, Brent Burns and Jaccob Slavin all added two to their record.
