Kristóf Szalay-Bobrovniczky, László Trócsányi, Tibor Navracsics, István Stumpf, and even Katalin Szili may come up as Katalin Novák’s successor.

Katalin Novák has officially submitted her resignation, and although Viktor Orbán now presumably has to face bigger problems than finding a successor to the president of the republic who fell into the clemency case, speculations have started in the press regarding who might be mentioned.

The nomination of the Speaker of the House was already considered following the resignation of Pál Schmitt, but Orbán decided in favor of the much less characterful János Áder. He is not fat for the position either, but he would not shy away from the task if there was no other choice. Yet it is unlikely that Orbán, who often makes statements quite far from the role of head of state, would be the choice of the speaker.

About the Minister of National Defense a hvg wrote that Fidesz is already measuring its popularity. Péter Magyar also spoke regarding the possible nomination of Szalay-Bobrovniczky in an interview with Partizán. According to Judit Varga’s ex-husband, “he is connected to Árpád Habony, Árpád Habony is connected to Antal Rogán, i.e. if he becomes the president of the republic, Antal Rogán’s man will become the president of the republic. Due to his dubious business dealings and the enormous wealth he acquired from it, it is unlikely that he would be the candidate for the post.

The name of the former minister of justice, who was forced to leave the board of trustees of the University of Szeged, was also suggested for the post. Trócsányi currently works as a member of the European Parliament of Fidesz. His professional background makes him suitable for the position, and he has already announced that he no longer wants to be an EU representative this year.

Like Trócsányi, the professional competence of the former minister of the first Orbán government cannot be disputed. Stumpf, who worked as a constitutional judge between 2010 and 2019, is also supported by the fact that János is not a nod: he has repeatedly expressed his displeasure with Fidesz’s decisions. If Orbán wants a more sovereign president than before, Stumpf, a lawyer and sociologist, might be a good choice.

After many years of neglect, in 2022, Navracsics, who once once more embodies the archetype of “the Fidesz with a human face”, became a member of the inner circle of Fidesz. Like Stump, he is professionally up to the task, and more than once criticized once morest Fidesz, even stating that today he is not sure that he would join the party. At the same time, as the Minister of Justice of the second Orbán government, he has his hand heavily involved in the dismantling of the rule of law, since for example the adoption of the Fidesz Basic Law or the transformation of the electoral system can be done during this period.

Now it can hardly be accused of being oppositional Index wrote that the popularity of Béla Merkely is also being measured at Fidesz. According to the portal, the rector of Semmelweis University’s scientific achievements, habitus and leadership experience make him suitable for moving into the Sándor Palace. At the same time, it was made regarding him bulivideos because of this, it can later become a target for scoffers.

The former socialist Speaker of the House had already cherished presidential ambitions, and since then he has proven countless times that his spine bends easily. If Orbán wants another puppet as president, Szili might be the perfect choice.

+1: A few days ago, Zoltán Balog, former minister of human affairs, might have been on this list, but today the Reformed bishop can even be happy if he can keep his high position in the church.
