Cade Cunningham strong once more – Kristaps Porzingis shines for Boston

For the Celtics, who didn’t hold up at all in the first half, Kristaps Porzingis was the best scorer with his season high of 35 points (13/21 FG). He scored eight points in a 10-0 run in the final quarter, making Boston 106-100. But Jaden Ivey (22 points, 10 rebounds) scored 6 points in a row for the guests, and a little later Cunningham missed the three-pointer for a potential victory. “I don’t just want to win another game this year,” said the 2021 number 1 pick, who once more played strongly with 31 points and 9 assists. “That would be too soft in my eyes. We have bigger goals.”

In the Celtics’ fourth win in a row, Jayson Tatum had a double-double (31 points, 10 assists) with five steals. Derrick White scored 23 points, Jaylen Brown was out with back problems. Detroit dominated on the boards (57:43), but also committed 18 turnovers and only hit 12 of 19 free throws. “Sometimes you let yourself be blinded by the balance sheet: Oh, we should be leading this team by so much in the first quarter. But it just doesn’t work that way,” said Celtics coach Joe Mazzulla.

The Pistons, on the other hand, were optimistic following their fifth comparatively narrow defeat in a row. “We have everything we need to win,” emphasized Cunningham. “We have to bring it together, find the right system, then we can have long-term success. That’s what we’re looking for right now.”
