“I’ve lost the joy of skiing over the last few years. I want to find it again. I don’t find it difficult to struggle in training. But it has to be fun again. But I’m very relaxed about it and have a good team of trainers,” the 32-year-old said in an interview with the “Tiroler Tageszeitung”.
“It wasn’t as much fun anymore”
Next season, with the home World Championships in Saalbach-Hinterglemm, it is time for more success to come. These have often been lacking recently. “It just wasn’t as much fun last year, when things weren’t going quite as well.”
He is still in close contact with his former teammate Matthias Mayer, who is no longer officially part of the ÖSV coaching team after a scandal at the World Cup in Kitzbühel. “We have a lot to do with each other. Mothl was recently at the ÖSV athletes’ ice hockey camp in Salzburg, he is our best ice skater. He is still part of our team,” says Kriechmayr.
Wedding in Styria
On a personal level, things went well for the Upper Austrian in the summer. He married his long-time girlfriend Michaela Heider in Styria, and after the honeymoon his full focus is now on the coming World Cup winter.
