Kremlin: Ukraine’s neutrality as a “compromise”

According to the Kremlin, the negotiations between Moscow and Kyiv are currently talking regarding Ukraine’s neutrality, following the example of Sweden and Austria.

“That is the option currently being discussed,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said today. This neutrality model can be seen as “a compromise”.

Such a neutral status for Ukraine would mean that the country would not join NATO. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has previously said his country must “recognize” its inability to join the Western military alliance.

The question of Ukraine joining NATO is one of the reasons given by Russia for its attack on the neighboring country. Moscow sees the western military alliance as an existential threat.
