Making beats, writing song lyrics or strolling along the Milky Way – the Linz Children’s Culture Week is being organized for the tenth time in order to offer children a diverse cultural program and to break down any fears of contact.

The children’s culture center Kuddelmuddel and Linz Kultur have put together an exciting program in cooperation with other cultural partners such as the Lentos Art Museum, Ars Electronica Center or Brucknerhaus Linz.

Workshops, exhibitions, guided tours, theatre, cinema, dance and music performances, readings, picture book cinema, taster offers and much more await those who are interested from October 12th to 23rd. Admission to all participating museums is free of charge for children under the age of 14, and there are discounts for accompanying persons.

Babies to Teens

The hands-on concert “Beethoven und Butterbrezel” by the musicians and song inventors RatzFatz will be held on October 15th in the congress hall of the Linz Chamber of Labor for small children from the age of zero to two years.

Among other things, a virtual journey through the Milky Way in 2D and 3D awaits the kindergarten children in the Deep Space of the Ars Electronica Center.

Furthermore, the circus of knowledge offers an interactive program with choreographies and stories regarding octopuses for children from the age of 4 on October 12 at the JKU Linz in the play “Faszination Krake”. In order to bring the topic of climate change closer to the younger generation, MMS 22 will be performing their play “Mensch Erdball” in the congress hall of the Linz Chamber of Labor on October 13th.

At the multi-day workshop “Beatbande” in the Ars Electronica Center, children from the age of nine can make their own beats and come up with rhymes with musician Flip from the hip-hop band Texta on October 13.

A look behind the scenes

Teenagers can also look forward to the children’s culture week: on October 15th they have the opportunity to learn how camera work, film technology and TV productions work in the Linz Knowledge Tower.

As in previous years, the Children’s and Young People’s Book Days will be part of the Children’s Culture Week this year. With more than 3,400 registrations, the project, in which there are 3,000 books to discover, is traditionally very popular with the younger population. According to the organizers, the joy of reading promotes reading skills.
