Deputy Chairman of Commission II of the Indonesian House of Representatives Junimart Girsang said he received information that the General Elections Commission (KPU) was writing to the Indonesian Embassy in several European countries for the purpose of a working visit (kunker) in the context of its supervisory function.
Junimart also questioned the intent and urgency of the KPU RI’s actions.
Responding to this, the Program Manager of the Association for Elections and Democracy (Perludem) Fadli Ramadhanil said there was no urgency for KPU Commissioners to travel abroad.
“There should be no urgency at all for the KPU to go abroad,” Fadli explained to Media Indonesia, Wednesday (10/7).
“What’s the point of having an overseas visit while there are regional elections just around the corner,” he added.
Fadli said that apart from being an issue of effectiveness, the KPU’s desire to travel abroad was also a form of waste.

“In my opinion, KPU commissioners should be a bit more shameless, commissioners who always go on vacation abroad, whether it’s a waste of state money,” said Fadli.
Junimart explained that the Indonesian Embassies contacted by the KPU included those in England, Italy, and several countries in Europe.
“Italy has even been accepted. And some friends have also met, what do they (KPU) want to do, online shopping?,” said Junimart.
Junimart also emphasized that the KPU needs to be audited by the Audit Board of Indonesia (BPK).
“That’s why we say that the KPU needs to be supervised, the BPK will immediately audit the KPU,” he said. (Ykb/Z-7)
