The People’s Voter Education Network (JPPR) has asked the General Election Commission (KPU) to no longer use jets for the distribution of logistics related to the 2024 Simultaneous Regional Head Elections (Pilkada). The distribution of logistics for the 2024 Pilkada is considered different from the previous 2024 Election because it is more decentralized.

JPPR National Coordinator Nurlia Dian Paramita said that the burden on the KPU in the regions as the organizer of the regional elections is lower than the KPU RI when organizing elections. Therefore, she considered that the logistics procurement process for the 2024 Pilkada must be carried out in a decentralized manner, not centralized.

“I think the rationalization of the use of jet planes in yesterday’s election, which was claimed to be related to logistics distribution, does not have a clear rationalization,” he told Media Indonesia, Sunday (14/7).

During the regional elections, Mita continued, the work of the organizers is more burdened to the ranks of the provincial and district/city KPU. Thus, he believes that the use of jet planes under the pretext of distributing logistics should be minimized as much as possible.

“I think that private jet facilities are very irrational to be used as a reason for distributing logistics in organizing this regional election,” he explained.

JPPR hopes that the KPU ranks will be able to prepare logistics that remain on target, both in terms of time and the fulfillment of types of logistics in the implementation of the 2024 Pilkada. Mita reminded, do not let there be poor logistics management that will have an impact on the obstruction of voters’ use of their voting rights because they run out of ballots.

“There should be no more damaged ballots that might potentially invalidate voters’ voting rights, even though voters have the right to replace damaged ballots,” he concluded.

The use of jet aircraft by the KPU during the 2024 Election stages was brought up in a working meeting with Commission II of the Indonesian House of Representatives and the government. The KPU argued that the jet aircraft rented during the 2024 Election stages were for the purpose of distributing logistics, especially to the outermost regions in Indonesia such as Papua and the Sangihe Islands.
