The Corruption Eradication COMMISSION (KPK) advised the government to stop providing social assistance for 2-3 months before voting in this year’s Regional Head Election (Pilkada).
“I really hope there is a regional regulation or whatever that prohibits the distribution of social assistance 2 months or 3 months before the regional elections,” said KPK Deputy Chairman Alexander Marwata at the KPK Juang Building, South Jakarta, Wednesday (20/3).
The Corruption Eradication Commission considers that the distribution of social assistance is a problem in selecting officials. People tend to choose candidates who give them goods or money.
“What is the people’s preference for choosing candidates for members of the DPR or regional or state leaders first, ladies and gentlemen? “The money factor,” said Alex.
The suspension order is not permanent. After the voting is complete, the regional head may distribute it once more.
“If you want to be serious, that’s fine now or following the regional elections. Yes, we are not criticizing what was held yesterday, right? “Ahead of the presidential election, there was a flood of social assistance and the people were very happy and we already expected that this would happen,” said Alex.
