KPK Investigates Alleged Corruption at Indonesian Export Financing Institution
Jakarta – The Corruption Eradication Committee (KPK) has made important progress in its examination into alleged corruption at the Indonesian export Financing Institution (LPEI). On January 9, 2025, KPK investigators conducted a search at the residence of a former CEO of a state-owned enterprise (BUMN) in Jakarta.
“Today, KPK investigators have carried out a search of one of the homes of the former BUMN Main Director in Jakarta,” stated KPK spokesperson Tessa Mahardhika in an official announcement. During the operation, authorities seized three piaggio Vespa motorcycles valued at approximately IDR 1.5 billion and a Wuling car worth IDR 350 million. Additionally, electronic evidence and documents believed to be connected to the case were confiscated.
“the motorized vehicles include three Vespa Piaggio motorcycles with a value of approximately IDR 1.5 billion and two Wuling cars worth around IDR 350 million,” Tessa explained. She further noted, “The confiscated assets are suspected to be linked to the flow of funds from the TPK in the case mentioned above.”
The KPK has issued a stern warning to all parties involved, urging them to refrain from receiving, hiding, or holding property tied to suspects. ”If it is indeed proven that this was done in an effort to hide or disguise the results of the TPK, then the parties will be charged under the Corruption Crimes law or money laundering,” Tessa emphasized.
Investigators estimate that the state has suffered losses of up to IDR 1 trillion due to the alleged corruption at LPEI. The scheme involved a ’patchwork’ method in loan and credit financing, where new loans were used to cover previous ones. “For the time being, investigators have found a ‘patchwork’ mode in terms of borrowing and payment of financing credits at LPEI. Where the next loan is to cover the previous loan,” Tessa clarified. She added, “The estimated state loss is around 1 trillion. the credit facilities provided come from the APBN.”
The KPK is continuing its investigation and has not ruled out the possibility of implicating additional individuals in the case. Tessa also cautioned those involved to remain vigilant against any attempts to exploit the situation. “The Corruption Eradication Commission reminds all parties not to be tempted if someone on behalf of the KPK offers to resolve this case,” she warned.
