The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) revealed the modus operandi of the gratification and money laundering case carried out by former Kutai Kartanegara (Kukar) Regent Rita Widyasari (RW). She was said to have manipulated the metric size per ton in each coal shipment in her region.

“In the RW case, this is related to the metric ton issue. So RW as the regent of Kukar at that time received gratification in the form of funds from several companies. That was from the exploration results in the form of metric tons of coal,” said KPK Investigation Director Asep Guntur Rahayu in Jakarta, Saturday (6/7).

Asep explained that Rita set a certain price for shipping each metric ton of coal. The price was set in foreign currency.

“Each office carries millions of tons in one trip. That has a value of between US$3.3 dollars to US$5 dollars per metric ton. Well, you can imagine because the company can produce millions of metric tons of exploration results,” said Asep.

Asep was reluctant to detail the exact total amount of money Rita had received. However, he said, the funds enjoyed were distributed to a number of people who tended towards money laundering.

“We are in the context of the RW’s TPPU and also in the main case of gratification related to metric tons, wherever the funds flow, we will look for it, then we will take coercive measures in the form of searches and others,” said Asep.

Previously, the KPK revealed evidence of Rita Widyasari’s gratification and money laundering case. A total of 104 vehicles were confiscated by investigators.

“The motorized vehicles consist of 72 cars and 32 motorbikes,” said KPK Spokesperson Tessa Mahardhika Sugiarto in a written statement, Sunday, June 9, 2024.

In this case, the KPK also seized Rita’s land and buildings spread across six locations. A number of rupiah and foreign currencies were also temporarily taken by investigators.

“The money in rupiah currency is worth Rp6.7 billion and in USD and other foreign currencies is worth a total of approximately Rp2 billion,” said Tessa.

The KPK strongly believes that Rita received gratification and money laundering during her tenure. Hundreds of documents and electronic evidence support the allegations. (Z-11)
