Anti-corruption activist Herdiansyah Hamzah Castro assessed that the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) is no longer respected. He said this in response to the statement of KPK Deputy Chairman Alexander Marwata who said that coordination and supervision between the KPK and the National Police and the Attorney General’s Office (Kejagung) were not good in eradicating corruption.

“That’s the condition of the KPK, it’s sad. The KPK has not only lost the trust of the public, but also of two other law enforcement agencies,” said Herdiansyah when contacted, Wednesday (3/7).

In fact, Herdiansyah said, the KPK has the authority to supervise. Supervision between the anti-corruption agency and the two other law enforcement agencies should be able to run well.

“But because the KPK is corrupt from head to tail, the KPK is no longer respected. Other institutions don’t want to listen,” said Herdiansyah.

He said the dignity of eradicating corruption within the KPK has been lost. In fact, the KPK used to be the commander of the war once morest corruption.

Previously, Deputy Chairman of the Corruption Eradication Committee (KPK) Alexander Marwata said that the Attorney General’s Office and the National Police would close the door to coordination and supervision if any of their members were arrested by the KPK. He conveyed this during a working meeting between Commission III of the DPR and the KPK at the DPR R Building, Senayan, Central Jakarta.

“Indeed, in the KPK Law, both the old and new, there is a coordination and supervision function. Is it running well? I must say to you all, it is not running well,” said Alexander at the Parliament Building.

Alexander said there is still ego-sectoral between law enforcement agencies. “If we arrest friends of the prosecutors, for example, suddenly the Prosecutor’s Office closes the door to coordination and supervision. It’s difficult. Maybe it’s the same with the police,” he said.

Attorney General’s Office and National Police deny KPK

The National Police and the Attorney General’s Office have denied Alexander’s statement. The Attorney General’s Office asked Alexander to look at the facts on the ground before making a statement. The Attorney General’s Office has so far been said to be very open and facilitative towards the KPK in carrying out its coordination and supervision functions, especially in the regions.

This denial was also conveyed by the Bhayangkara Corps. The Police are certain to have technical capabilities and are able to establish cooperation in law enforcement.

The synergy between the KPK and the Police has been built through a memorandum of understanding. The Police are certain to continue to be committed to supporting the eradication of corruption and have coordinated in law enforcement with the Anti-Corruption Agency. (Z-11)
