THE Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) confirmed that the investigation into alleged corruption in the Semarang City Government (Pemkot) is not related to the regional head election (pilkada) process in Semarang. Semarang Mayor Hevearita Gunaryanti Rahayu is known to be running once more as a regional head there.

“Then currently, Sister I (Mbak Ita or Hevearita) is running once more, will this be a disruption? What we are focusing on is handling the case,” said KPK Investigation Director Asep Guntur Rahayu in Jakarta, Thursday, July 18, 2024.

Asep asserted that his party worked on sufficient evidence. The case was asserted to be unrelated to political developments in Semarang or Indonesia.

In addition, the KPK also conducted another search to find alleged corruption in the Semarang City Government (Pemkot). Investigators are looking for a number of pieces of evidence for the needs of filing cases.

“Until now, the investigation task force team is still conducting the investigation process in Semarang, which is still ongoing,” said KPK spokesperson Tessa Mahardhika Sugiarto at the KPK’s Red and White Building, South Jakarta, Thursday, July 18, 2024.

Tessa was reluctant to detail the location of her search in order to maintain the confidentiality of the investigation process. The public is expected to be patient in waiting for the results of the coercive efforts.

“Don’t worry if all the investigation activities are finished and there are updates from fellow investigators, we will convey them to fellow journalists later,” said Tessa.

There are three alleged corruption cases being investigated by the KPK in Semarang. The cases are alleged bribery in the procurement of goods and services, extortion of civil servants over the collection of regional taxes and levies, and the receipt of gratuities.

The KPK is actually reluctant to reveal the names of the suspects in this case. However, based on the information they have gathered, namely the Mayor of Semarang Hevearita Gunaryanti Rahayu, Hevearita’s husband, Alwin Basri, the Chairman of Gapensi Martono, and the private sector Rahmat U Djangkar.

The KPK has searched several locations related to this case, one of which is the Semarang Mayor’s Office. Based on the information gathered, the coercive efforts are still being carried out to this day. (Z-7)
