Heo Seong-hoon (19, Chung-Ang University) wrote the ’58 of a dream’ in the preliminary round of the 16th KPGA Srixon Tour.
Seong-Hoon Huh recorded a 13-under-par 58 in Group A of the 16th KPGA Srixon Tour held at Gunsan CC Jeonju/Iksan course (par 71) in Gunsan, Jeollabuk-do on the 22nd.
Heo Seong-hoon achieved a great job with 13 birdies without bogey. This is the first time he has hit 58 in a domestic competition. However, it is not recognized as an official record because it is the result of the preliminary round.
The minimum number of strokes for 18 holes of the Srixon Tour is 60 strokes written by Jaemin Han in the first round of the 17th tournament in 2019. The KPGA Korean Tour’s 18-hole minimum at-bat was also 60, created by Seung-Taek Lee in September 2017 and Hyeong-Jun Lee in November.
Seong-Hoon Huh gave strength with six birdies in the first nine holes. The good vibes continued into the second half. Heo Seong-hoon, who recorded birdies on the 11th and 12th holes in a row, completed the ’58 of a dream’ with five consecutive birdies from the 14th to the last hole.
Heo Seong-hoon told the KPGA on the 24th, “I’m still confused. The slope of the green for each hole was easily identified. It’s the first time this has happened,” he laughed.
“Even when the score was continuously reduced, I was not excited. After the game, he looked closely at the scorecard and only knew he had hit 58. “Heo Seong-hoon,” said, was one of his most focused days. It is quite unfortunate that it is not counted as an official record,” he said.
The day before the match, I felt an unusual energy.
Heo Seong-hoon said, “I practiced putting in the dorm until I fell asleep. After waking up for a while, a strange inspiration for the putt stroke came to mind, so he practiced for an hour and then fell asleep once more. He was surprised,” he explained.
Heo Seong-hoon left for New Zealand to study at the age of 10. His purpose was to study. Influenced by his golf-loving mother, he acquired his first club in New Zealand. After returning home at the age of 14, he started playing golf in earnest in Korea.
Heo Seong-hoon, who lifted the championship cup at the 37th Ulsan City Golf Association President’s Cup Golf Tournament in 2020, joined the KPGA Pro in October of that year. The following year, 2021, he qualified for the KPGA Tour Pro and has been playing steadily on the KPGA Srixon Tour ever since.
Heo Seong-hoon said, “I study hard and play golf at the same time. It was the recent vacation period, so I focused on training, and this meaningful result came out. In the finals, we will lead the game calmly with a fresh mind. I want to win the prize money and buy a present to express my gratitude to my parents and teacher Hyomin Jang.”
The 16th Srixon Tour, in which regarding 130 players including Seong-Hoon Heo participate, will be held at Gunsan CC from the 5th of next month.
