Kozhikode: UNESCO’s Literary City Status Acknowledges Rich Cultural Contributions

Thiruvananthapuram: Minister M.B. said that UNESCO’s Literary City status is a worthy recognition for Kozhikode’s rich and unique cultural contributions. Rajesh. He said that he heartily congratulates the Corporation and all the people of Kozhikode for leading Kozhikode to this global recognition.

This is an achievement that not only Kozhikode but entire Kerala can be proud of. Special thanks to Kerala Institute of Local Administration (KILA) for providing all support to the activity.

It is an undisputed fact that no other region has contributed as much as Kozhikode to our culture and literature. Vaikom Muhammad Basheer, M.T. Vasudevan Nair, S.K. Potekad, Thikotian, N.N. Kakadu, P. Vatsala, K.T. Mohammad, Sanjayan, NV. Krishna Varyar… The people of Kozhikode have influenced the cultural and literary thoughts of Kerala more than anyone else. Even today the people of Kozhikode take care to preserve this cultural heritage and take it forward with more strength. Kozhikode is awarded the title of Literary City as a tribute given by the world to generations.

This recognition is the result of meticulous and systematic efforts and interventions by Kozhikode Corporation with the support of Qila. These efforts have enabled us to document and present our great heritage in a modern, global standard that surpasses any country in the world. Being in constant contact and active exchange of ideas with global cities including Prague, Kharkov and Edinburgh that have achieved this feat before has been very helpful. All the artistic, literary and cultural features of Kozhikode were accurately collected and documented. The continuous efforts made by the Corporation to transform Kozhikode into a literary hub by bringing together all sections of the people have now seen results.

Malayali is once once more becoming the center of attention of the world. This achievement of Kozhikode is a source of excitement and pride for all of Kerala. Congratulations once once more to all involved in this activity. Participating in the joy and celebration of the people of Kozhikode – Minister M.B. Rajesh said.
