Kozhikode Student Tragedy: Suicide Prompted by Fake Message Demanding Fine for Illegal Site Access

Kozhikode: A student who received a fake message in the name of a cyber cell asking him to pay a fine for entering an illegal site committed suicide. The incident took place in Kozhikode. The message was to pay a fine of Rs 33,900 for entering an illegal site. It is said that the message also contained a threat that if the fine was not paid, the police station would be informed and arrested.

Adinath (16), a plus one student of Samoothiri Higher Secondary School, Kozhikode, died. It is reported that the message came to Adinath’s laptop while he was watching a movie the other day. The message said that he had visited an obscene website and that he had to pay a fine of Rs 33,900 as it was illegal.

The message also threatened to inform the nearest police station and arrest him if the money is not paid as soon as possible. After seeing this, Adinath got scared and committed suicide. The Chevayur police registered a case and started investigation. According to the police, no significant clues have been received in this regard.
