Beijing ചൈന The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has announced that China has relinquished its right to host the 2023 AFC Asian Cup. The move follows an increase in Kovid cases in the country. The tournament, which will feature 24 teams from Asia, is scheduled to take place from June 16 to July 16 next year.

“After lengthy negotiations with the Chinese Football Association, China has announced that it will not be hosting next year’s tournament,” the Confederation said in a statement. Qatar won the 2019 tournament.

The AFC is aware of the special circumstances under which the Kovid crisis exists. This is why China is relinquishing its right to host. The confederation said it would decide later which country would replace China as host.

The Asian Games, which were scheduled to be held in China in September, were also postponed by the organizers following Kovid. As the number of Kovid cases continues to rise, many cities in China are still under lockdown.
