Koundé Conundrum: Unraveling the Enigma of Flick’s Lineup Bombshell

Flick takes action!

Barcelona coach Hansi Flick (59) attaches great importance to discipline and has expressed this many times this season. He doesn’t tolerate tardiness and doesn’t shy away from big names. A regular player felt this in the league at the weekend.

In the game against Deportivo Alaves, the German coach made a change to the starting line-up, although he had previously announced that he would avoid rotations. Nevertheless, right-back Jules Koundé (25), who has been on the pitch for every possible minute this season, was caught. The young player Hector Fort (18), who played for the first time from the start, started for him. The Frenchman was finally substituted on in the 67th minute.

When asked after the game about Koundé’s absence from the starting line-up, Flick said: “He was a substitute because he needed a break.” However, as the Barcelona sports newspaper “Sport” claims to have learned, this was not the case. Because: The right-back was originally supposed to be part of the first eleven, but was late for the team meeting before the game. An indiscipline that now had consequences. During the summer preparation, Flick made it clear how important punctuality was to him. So far, however, things have not gone beyond warnings or minor penalties internally.

Hansi Flick and FC Barcelona continue to impress

The fact is: the season is still going well for the ex-national coach and FC Barcelona. After the convincing 3-0 win in Alaves, they remain in first place in La Liga after nine match days, three points ahead of rivals Real Madrid. There was only a defeat against Osasuna (2:4). The Catalans have also got going in the Champions League. After the opening defeat in Monaco (1:2), they clearly won the second match 5-0 against Young Boys Bern. Hansi Flick’s strict approach to indiscipline seems to be paying off.
