Kottayam ∙ India to the World Athletics Championship with the largest contingent in history. There are 33 athletes in the squad for the championships starting on the 19th in Budapest, Hungary. 27 are competing in individual events while 6 are members of the men’s 4–400 relay team. Last year, 23 people competed for India in the championship held in the US.

There are 6 Malayalis in the Indian team. M. Sreesankar (long jump), Abdullah Abubakar and Eldos Paul (both triple jump) are competing in the individual event.
