The President of the Pensioners’ Association, Peter Kostelka, expects an increase of ten percent in 2024 due to inflation. “Poverty in old age is increasing. That’s why we’re calling for a five percent pension adjustment from now and a further five percent from January 1, 2024,” says Kostelka. Bringing forward half of the pension adjustment is necessary if the purchasing power of pensions is to be secured.
“We know of cases where, following deducting the rent, energy and medication, no more than 60 to 100 euros per week are left over. That’s not a decent life,” says Kostelka.
