5 percent more already with the July retirement
Vienna (OTS) – The president of the independent pensioners’ association, Dr. Peter Kostelka to the club leaders of ALL parliamentary parties. „She and your parliamentary group can help pensioners quickly and easily: Agree with the proposal to pay out part of the statutory pension adjustment for the coming year from this July pension. Time is pressing, because pensioners can no longer afford to live!” writes Kostelka in his email.
The President of the Pensioners’ Association pointed out that the pension adjustments (2022: 1.8 percent, 2023: 5.8 percent) have already been offset by much higher, dramatic price increases for food, heating and housing for two years. And also that “the one-off payments might not compensate for this in the slightest, because they were not even enough for the additional payments for electricity, gas, district heating or the enormously increased costs for pellets or heating oil deliveries. The situation is dramatic and does not only affect recipients of a compensatory allowance; it is already reaching far into the middle class! The current decline in the consumer price index from over 11 to around 9 percent is pure statistics; the price increases for groceries, energy and rents are still in the two-digit range‘, as stated in the email.
According to calculations by the independent pensioners’ association, the 2024 adjustment will be around 10 percent. Half of this, i.e. an increase of 5 percent, is intended to alleviate the financial problems of pensioners from July 2023.
Kostelka: “Extraordinary times require extraordinary measures. Such an advance presupposes a parliamentary decision. I appeal to the parliamentary parties to get hold of him before the summer and to ensure that all pensioners can afford to live once more!”
