After letting the storm pass, Genk settled into the Courtrais camp and Bryan Heynen pushed Tom Vandenberghe to the parade (17th). The Limburgers then created a double chance but Joseph Paintsil stumbled on Vandenberghe before Paul Onuachu saw his shot saved on the line by Tsuyoshi Watanabe (19th).
The end of the first period was to Kortrijk’s advantage and Bilel Messaoudi had two chances to open the scoring but Vandevoort played the firefighters on duty (42nd and 45th).
The chances were fewer in the second half but Kortrijk continued to show the most enterprising, without worrying Vandevoordt. The ‘Kerels’ were finally rewarded at the end of the match. Barely entering the game, Dylan Mbayo crossed in the direction of Felipe Avenatti who slipped the ball between the legs of Vandevoordt (83rd).
Genk then pushed to come back to the score and Heynen thought he scored the equalizer but the Genk captain saw Vandenberghe repel his two attempts (90th).
In the standings, Genk remains in the lead with 46 points, seven more than Union Saint-Gilloise, who beat Ostend earlier on Monday (3-0). Kortrijk goes back to 16th place with 15 points.
