The wall-mounted air conditioner that LG Electronics released for the first time in Korea in 1979 has returned after working normally for 45 years. Not long ago, Hong Yeon-moo and Moon Hee-seon, who live in Gyeongju, North Gyeongsang Province, donated to LG Electronics a wall-mounted air conditioner, ‘GA-100SP’, which they purchased in 1979 and has been operating normally without any malfunctions for 45 years.
The donated product is a wall-mounted type that separates the outdoor unit of an air conditioner for the first time in Korea and hangs only the main unit through which the wind comes out.
At that time, the domestic air conditioner market was dominated by window air conditioners with an outdoor unit and a main body, so the emergence of wall-mounted air conditioners was an innovation.
Above all, the noise was significantly less because the outdoor unit and the main body through which the wind came out were separated.
It was also welcomed that the location of the air conditioner installation was not a window.
It completed the legend of the first air conditioner along with the ‘GA-111’, the first window air conditioner in Korea released in 1968 and the ‘GA-025’, the first stand air conditioner in Korea released in 1983.
LG Electronics plans to display the first air conditioners in various types at LG Inhwawon and Changwon R&D Center, and use them as a legacy to prove the advanced technology of LG Electronics air conditioners to visitors.
Mr. Hong Yeon-moo, who donated the product, said, “In the spring of 1979, I bought a wall-mounted air conditioner because I thought of my children who had to study while struggling in the scorching summer heat.” I have been proud of the air conditioner and donated it because I thought it would be of high value as feed.”
