The very first flight from Korea arrived in Quebec on Wednesday with hundreds of Asian tourists who clearly took pleasure in posing with the emblematic Bonhomme Carnaval, who came out of his vacation for the occasion.

Accompanied by the king of the winter festival, an imposing welcoming committee awaited the Korean visitors at the Jean-Lesage International Airport in Quebec.

All smiles despite a very long flight, the foreign travelers seemed to appreciate this initial contact with the capital. Several of them insisted on getting a photo with Bonhomme Carnaval.

Flowers, chocolates and maple candy had also been carefully prepared for the group. Even the mayor of Quebec was present on the tarmac to mark the event.

“Quebec proves that its warm welcome makes its reputation all over the world,” said Bruno Marchand.

A thousand tourists

As part of a new partnership announced last May with Korean tour operator Hanjin Travel, four flights from Seoul will land directly in Quebec in the coming weeks. The region will thus benefit from the presence of nearly a thousand additional Korean tourists this fall.

According to Robert Mercure, director of Destination Québec, the reaction of visitors is fascinating. “They are really delighted. They love Bonhomme and they are sincerely touched despite the fact that they travel all over the world. We are very happy,” he said.

Improve the offer

YQB President and CEO, Stéphane Poirier, was also very satisfied. “It’s an important and special moment. It’s a big success. People love the city and the program works very well. Everyone will benefit from it. »

On the front, YQB is currently continuing its offensive with the slogan “The smallest of the big airports!” »

“We tell people to take the time to look at the offer from Quebec when they have travel plans. They may be surprised,” adds Mr. Poirier.

Korean tourists arriving Wednesday will stay three nights in the region.

After landing in Quebec, passengers on the last charter flight will travel to New York, where they will board a plane which will take them back to Seoul.

The agreement for these air routes was financed in part by lodging tax revenues collected from hotels in the region.
