The Korean women’s volleyball team failed to win in the 3rd week of the 2023 International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) Volleyball Nations League (VNL) held in Suwon City and fell into a 9-game losing streak.

In the match against Bulgaria held at Seosuwon Chilbo Gymnasium on the 27th, Korea lost with a set score of 1-3. Korea had to be content with winning the first set.

Korea, led by coach Cesar Gonzalez, got off to a good start, leading 4-1 at the beginning of the first set. Bulgaria went on the offensive and tied the score 8-8. However, Bulgaria’s attack continued and Korea lost the first set 22-25.

The seesaw game developed until the middle of the second set. Korea reversed the score to 15-14 thanks to Kang So-hui’s serve, and Bulgaria’s attack was out to make it 16-14. Korea seemed to be gaining momentum, but Bulgaria immediately tied the game 16-16. Korea’s sub-receive Bumsil came out and Bulgaria led 21-17. At the end of the set, Korea failed to turn around and gave up the second set 18-25.

In the middle of the third set, Korea took a 15-11 lead thanks to Kim Da-in’s performance. With the score tied at 24-24 in the second half of the set, the Bulgarian player failed to properly receive the Pyo Seung-ju serve, and Korea reversed the score 25-24. Bulgaria’s attack was out and the third set was taken 26-24. It was the moment when he won the second set after winning one set against Germany in this tournament.

In the 4th set, Korea seldom narrowed the score gap with Bulgaria. Korea, unable to continue its upward trend in the third set, lost 15-25 in the fourth set.

South Korea will face Dominican Republic on the 29th at Seosuwon Chilbo Gymnasium.
