[바이오타임즈] A Korean research team has identified maternal heart disease as a risk factor for premature birth. The team led by Professor Ki-Hoon Ahn of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Korea University Anam Hospital, Professor Lee Joo-Seong of the Department of Pediatrics, and Professor Kwang-Sik Lee of the AI Center announced on the 20th that they have identified the relationship between premature birth in Asians and maternal heart disease and developed a predictive model for premature birth.
Preterm labor is delivery that occurs between 20 and 37 weeks of gestation. In the case of newborns born before 37 weeks of age, mortality and morbidity may increase, and caution is required as they may have various complications such as behavioral disorders, cerebral palsy, autism, and asthma.
Many studies to prevent premature birth are in progress in overseas countries. Among them, a study that maternal heart disease is related to premature birth has been reported in the West, but this is the first study on Asians.
