Opposition lawmakers visited Japan on the 10th to stop the dumping of contaminated water from the Fukushima nuclear power plant in Japan. They plan to hold a rally in front of the official residence of Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida and meet with Japanese politicians and civil society figures to seek solidarity to stop the release.

11 members of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea to stop the dumping of nuclear contaminated water from Fukushima departed for Japan this morning through Gimpo International Airport. The two-night, three-day schedule will take place in Japan to stop the discharge of contaminated water.

On the first day of their visit to Japan, they plan to hold a rally in front of Prime Minister Kishida’s official residence to protest the discharge of contaminated water into the ocean. A protest visit to the Japanese branch of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and a sit-in in front of the Japanese Diet are also scheduled.

On the 11th, they will meet with Japan’s ‘Nuclear Zero Renewable Energy 100 Members’ Meeting’ and announce a joint declaration. On the 12th, a press conference will be held at the Foreign Correspondents’ Club in Japan. On the same day, there is also a plan to hold a walking march to stop dumping of contaminated water into the ocean.

The delegation for the visit to Japan consisted of 9 Democratic Party lawmakers (Kim Seung-nam, Park Beom-gye, Ahn Min-seok, Yang Yi Won-young, Wi Seong-gon, Yu Jeong-ju, Yoon Jae-gap, Lee Yong-bin, Ju Cheol-hyeon) and independent lawmakers Yang Jeong-suk and Yun Mi-hyang. Members of the Democratic Party’s Farmers and Fisheries Committee and fishermen’s representatives are also joining the visit.
