Korean Delegation Shines at International Mathematics Olympiad: Ministry of Science and Technology

At the International Mathematics Olympiad, all members of the Korean delegation won medals and placed 3rd overall.

The Ministry of Science and ICT announced that “all Korean delegations won medals at the 64th International Mathematics Olympiad (IMO).” A total of 612 students from 112 countries participated in the International Mathematics Olympiad held in Chiba, Japan for a total of 12 days from the 2nd to the 13th.

For the Korean delegation, Bae Jun-hui (Seoul Science High School 3), Lee Gyu-dong (Seoul Science High School 3), Jin Young-beom (Seoul Science High School 2), and Choi Woo-jin (Seoul Science High School 3) won the gold medal, while Lee Ji-hoo (Seoul Science High School 3) and Jung Yoo-chan (Seoul Science High School 2) won the gold medal. The student won the silver medal, placing third overall with a total score of 215. China (6 gold medals, total score of 240 points) ranked first overall, and the United States (5 gold medals, 1 silver score, total score of 222 points) ranked second overall.

Student Bae Jun-hwi earned a perfect score of 42 in this competition and took first place as an individual. Bae Jun-hwi and Lee Gyu-dong won gold medals for three consecutive years, the highest individual award since the Korean delegation participated in the event. A record previously achieved only once, in 2014. In addition, Choi Woo-jin also achieved excellent results for 3 consecutive years, winning 2 gold medals and 1 silver medal in 3 years.

Meanwhile, following the International Mathematical Olympiad, the results of the International Science Olympiad in physics and chemistry will be announced one following another.
