4/19 groups and 12 patriots and veterans organizations, including the Korea Disabled Veterans Association, held a rally in front of Gwangju City Hall today (30th) and urged the ‘full withdrawal of the Jeong Yul-seong Memorial Project’.
About 1,900 participants, estimated by the organizers, demanded that “Jeong Yul-seong Historical Park is an act that denies the noble sacrifice and national identity of national patriots and martyrs.”
Some participants attempted to enter the Gwangju City Hall, demanding an interview with Gwangju Mayor Kang Ki-jeong, causing a commotion.
The city of Gwangju said, “I think it came from a misunderstanding of the original purpose of the Jeong Yul-seong Historical Park project,” and said, “I express my deep regret.”
