Lots of catchy tunes and a lot of variety: the British singer “Holly Humberstone” delighted everyone with a really nice concert in the (actually not so nice) Simm City!

I’m not a big fan of Simm City (and that’s no secret), but I made a pilgrimage there anyway that Friday evening. “Holly Humberstone” was finally in town and I mightn’t miss it. Me and my partner were there incredibly early: not only to get a good seat, but also to avoid queuing for half an eternity at the cloakroom. Shortly following we found an acceptable place in the concert hall, we were offered several A4 pieces of paper to hold up later during a song. Phew. we refused every time. We’re probably too old for such fan projects, nice if you like it, but I think artists are more happy regarding selling merch than regarding A4 sheets of paper with a declaration of love.

The room filled up quickly and at some point support act appeared “medium build” on stage. Yes, he was actually a phenomenon with his low-effort outfit (shorts over long leggings). and then he sang a bit, with a lot of enthusiasm and commitment, and accompanied himself on the guitar. but actually he talked at least as much. He probably even talked more than he sang. He managed around five or six songs in 30 minutes… that was quite an achievement. In any case: his songs were good anyway, but well, there was too much talking in between for me.

around 9 p.m. first the band sprinted and then “holly humberstone” onto the stage floor! The first song “Paint My Bedroom Black” was performed without much movement, following which Holly left her guitar and sang “Into Your Room” – and while she sang, she raced across the stage, shook her hair and occasionally hung up one turn. Then she switched back to the guitar and microphone stand and the set continued with exactly this variety. and I really liked this change! In addition to the various movements and non-movements, it was above all the songs that really captivated you. I wasn’t aware of how many hits, or rather catchy tunes (!), “Holly Humberstone” actually has! Can you actually say that all the songs were highlights?

A lot more happened: for the song “Overkill” “Medium Build” came back on stage and I loved how they both really got into the song! I, on the other hand, really got into “deep end” but even more so in “london is lonely”, but probably also because she was playing that song on the keyboard and sitting directly across from me. uff. that was intense! Ah, and then it was time for the fan project: right at the beginning of the song “Elvis Impersonators”, many people present held up the A4 sheets of paper and Holly grinned briefly, but left the campaign largely uncommented, especially because she was also busy with it was to sing the song.

I was really under the spell once more during “Sleep Tight” and then the evening was almost over anyway. There were also the numbers “Friendly Fire” and “Scarlett” as encores, and this last song in particular was really fun. everyone cheered and everyone was happy! And at that point it wasn’t so bad to be in Simm City anymore – because the compactness of the location ultimately meant that we met friends by chance and “James Arthur” also ran into us , which might be admired the next day in the Vienna gasometer. This probably wouldn’t happen anywhere else. All in all, it was a great evening – and maybe in the future I won’t see a visit to Simm City as so bad following all.
