‘beatsteaks’ celebrate nostalgia on stage in Vienna.

The final open-air concert is scheduled for Wednesday evening at the Vienna Arena. I arrived on time – in the best, slightly cooler weather – and waited with many old acquaintances for the spectacle to begin. For the “beatsteaks” audience. But it will be some time before that happens.

At 7:40 pm, the opening band finally started.group of six“Go. For some reason, I had relatively high expectations. But when I heard the first song, I didn’t know how to get through this set. The lead singer’s voice squeaked in every direction you can imagine. The music sounded flat and weak, and I had the feeling of watching a school band perform for the first time. Maybe it was my own fault, as I spent a lot of time watching gorgeous, spectacular super shows last year. “Six Piece Band” is not my cup of tea at all and I put a lot of effort into making a mini cell phone video because I really don’t like the music of it, however I have to give them credit for jumping and strutting around the stage with so much energy. Some nice poses anyway!

Around 8:40 p.m.,”Rhythm Steak“On the open-air stage of the Arena. With songs like “Jane Became Insane”, “Hail to the Freaks” and “Summer” they gave their loyal Austrian fans many of their biggest hits. Maybe they do It was to make the audience feel more positive – as new songs came one after another, the good atmosphere was temporarily gone. It didn’t help that Anim approached the crowd, which was an older crowd and actually only wanted to listen to the old songs. .

Fortunately, they designed the setlist so loyal concertgoers can soon enjoy familiar tracks again. They’ve mixed a total of four new numbers into old hit cocktails, and that’s more than enough. Listening to old songs makes me feel better again! At least that’s what I thought, because it soon became apparent that both the band and the audience were much older. Dancing to the music? Not with us! Arnim had to ask several times until there was an obvious slight movement in the audience. The vast majority of those present were standing around, sipping their drinks and enjoying the memories of being surrounded by the hits. I’m not excluding myself, I also have images in my mind of the Beatsteaks festival gig 15 years ago, when they were the biggest band in the world and everyone from the first row to the last row was completely freaking out. (Okay, they were never the biggest band in the world, but almost!)

But not only are the audience getting older and tired, but the beatsteaks themselves are getting crazier. Arnim usually restrains himself and does something with his arms, but mostly focuses on the guitar. You could tell he was happy to be back on stage as he tried to connect with the audience. Climb off the stage like before? Those times are over. With a few exceptions, the rest of the band also seems pretty lazy. But you can’t blame them! Regardless, I’m part of the nostalgic audience and am glad that many of my favorite hits made it onto the tracklist. I don’t want anything anymore. I attended my fifteenth Beatsteaks concert that night, and the reason I attended has always been for the hits that reminded me of the past.

Especially as the concert comes to an end, the atmosphere is getting better and better. The last song before the encore was “Let Me In”, and they performed the action of falling down and then jumping up. The only difference is that “Beatsteaks” are the original creators of this event and have always done this. But this was not done. It’s good, it feels good! The orchestra then briefly disappeared behind the stage before returning with the encore of my dreams: “Hand in Hand,” “Milk and Honey” and “Atomic Love.” Maybe it was during Milk and Honey that tears briefly rolled down my cheeks as I was hit with the ultimate nostalgic flashback.

After this killer encore, the band bid farewell and the concert night seemed to be over. Many people left the open-air area of the arena and suddenly, a few minutes later, “beatsteaks” appeared on stage again, followed closely by “barmaid” and “bad”. Granted, if you missed out, you didn’t miss out on anything, but somehow it was special if you were still there.

All in all, this was a great show from the Beatsteaks and one that I’ll probably be making a pilgrimage to for all the other shows they perform at the arena for decades to come. But: this is not a blockbuster show. But that’s not why I’m there. Because: I usually go to Beatsteaks concerts, like many others, because of nostalgia, because of memories, and because of friends you never see except at Beatsteaks concerts. It doesn’t matter.
