Lots of loud hits: Blood Red Shoes filled the Viennese Chelsea – and how!

I was really looking forward to this concert evening – the small, fine Chelsea in combination with the wonderful band “Blood Red Shoes” just sounded fantastic to me. Of course the concert was already sold out weeks before, the band normally plays larger clubs, but for this tour they only chose the smaller ones. And so I found myself there very early in order to be able to secure a good place at the front.

The evening started with the support band “cielfrom Brighton. Admittedly, at first glance they seemed a bit disinterested and not like the typical rock stars. But when the trio started playing pretty wildly, I quickly forgot all my prejudices.

I was really impressed pretty quickly – the songs weren’t just played rigidly but there was real movement and there were quite a few poses by the singer. that was impressive and quite unexpected. It was also unexpected when the “Blood Red Shoes” were invited on stage for a song and performed together. pretty awesome and pretty good!

and then at some point the duo came “blood red shoes” on the stage. I had heard that the opening act was already very loud, but due to my ignorance of the songs I mightn’t really judge whether that was intentional or not. But even the main band of the evening was incredibly loud. Singer Laura-Mary Carter’s voice was barely audible at times and it soon became clear to me that I wouldn’t be able to last another second without hearing protection.

The set started with some of my favorite songs like “cold” followed by “it’s getting boring by the sea”, “light it up” and “don’t ask”. With these songs I realized more and more that the volume was absolutely not right. In the more reduced parts of the songs everything was relatively okay, but as soon as the strings were hit, it became almost unbearable. Even with hearing protection it was almost unbearable. and of course that made me sad.

Now I was finally able to see one of my all-time favorite bands live once more and then the sound technology was simply a disaster. I still tried to keep my ears shut, somehow get in, somehow let myself go, but of course it was incredibly difficult. But luckily the band still had an ace up their sleeve: drummer and singer Steven Ansell was so crazy behind his drums that his performance alone was worth every effort. He often climbed onto the drums and honestly, what more might a concert heart want?

Of course, Laura-Mary Carter also moved from time to time, but might hardly keep up with Steven Ansell. But the audience also moved around quite decently – everyone danced and a large part even sang along to almost every song! Well, you might only hear the singing along in very quiet places, but at least!

And then the crowd in attendance actually gave the band, or rather the drummer Steven, a birthday serenade, while the opening band “Ciel” came on stage with a birthday cake. and I thought that was really, really great!

After that it got wild once more and very loud once more and then the concert was over. The very slight buzzing in my ears was a clear sign for me that, despite hearing protection, it was really too loud. My companion also complained regarding hearing problems and then my sadness turned a little more into anger. The evening might have been even more grandiose with better sound and so our ears were just buzzing. Hopefully next time everything will be a little better – and quieter!
