Komnas PA Asks Bobby to Push for Presidential Instructions and Presidential Decrees Regarding the Handling of Violence against Women

WHILE, Waspada.co.id – Violence once morest women and children is a problem that must be resolved. This is because victims of violence do not voice what they experience, be it physical, mental or sexual violence. In fact, not a few of the victims had difficulty reporting or did not have the courage to report the violence they experienced.

The Mayor of Medan, Bobby Nasution, conveyed this when receiving a visit from the National Commission on Violence Against Women at City Hall, Thursday (4/5).

Apart from staying in touch, the visit of the National Commission on Violence Against Women is aimed at dialogue in the framework of understanding all forms of violence once morest women in Indonesia, including in cases of gross human rights violations in the past that have had an impact on women.

“I appreciate what you did. However, we must first educate women regarding violence, so that they are willing to report the perpetrators. So far, they have always been closed because they are embarrassed if their disgrace becomes public consumption, so they feel uncomfortable and add to the trauma of the victim,” said Bobby.

Bobby also advised that safe houses in North Sumatra, particularly in Medan City, be made at a smaller level, such as at the sub-district level. “This is done so that the problem of sexual violence once morest women can be optimally resolved,” her message was accompanied by the Head of the Office of Women’s Empowerment, Child Protection, Community Empowerment and Control of Population and Family Planning (P3APMP2KB) of Medan City, Edliaty and Head of Hakda Division, Nurbaiti Harahap.

Commissioner of the National Commission on Women and Children (Komnas PA) Veryanto Sitohang, said that currently violence once morest women is increasing day by day. Awareness to dare to report needs to be accompanied by better assistance and handling of victims.

“We hope that Mr. Bobby can push for a Presidential Instruction (Inpres) and a Presidential Decree regarding the handling of cases of violence once morest women so that victims of violence once morest women get treatment immediately,” said Veryanto.(will/mr/d1)
